Say Hello to Cute, Say Hello to Flavor
This little guy is Flo. He (hopefull she) is one of three frizzled bantam cochins currently living in a giant rubbermaid in my office. They're sharing their space with Mortimer the duck. Another of the garden's new inhabitants.
I am so happy that I actually
In the same week I acquired these little guys, I went camping for work, came back with a bullfrog, and learned that my cat is completely disinterested in both. That's a lot of critters in one little townhouse apartment but we're making hay, as the saying goes, and picking it out of the bathtub drain when we have to.

OMG, I am dyin' ovah heah - both of envy and of teh cute. Keeping chickens in private residences is banned in the city of Chicago. Not that I have room for it anyway, but I have a friend who did, and oh man those eggs were good.
Not to get all Edith Massey on you, but..EGGS EGGS EGGS! So many colors, plus also yum.
My inlaws used to have 12 spotted rock hens. They were BEAUTIFUL. Unfortunately, they wouldn't lay in winter, and my inlaws didn't have the setup to keep them cozy all year long. So my MIL found a nice farmer with a warm barn to take them two years ago. None too soon - I am 99% sure after the brutal New England winter last year, they wouldn't have made it. I trust they are still fat and speckled and making delicious eggs.
